United Nations Climate Change Conference postponed due to the Covid19 crisis
COP 26 – The United Nations Climate Change Conference, which was due to take place in Glasgow in November 2020 has been postponed until next year.
The decision was made at the beginning of April, by the representatives of the United Nations Climate Change Bureau, in consultation with the UK and its Italian partners.
“In light of the ongoing, worldwide effects of COVID-19, holding an ambitious, inclusive COP26 in November 2020 is no longer possible”, the government mentioned in a press release on its website, adding that “rescheduling will ensure that all parties can focus on the issues to be discussed at this vital conference and allow more time for the necessary preparations to take place”.
The decision is of course understandable, but NGO’s are concerned that once the pandemic is over, environmental concerns will be placed on a back burner in favour of relaunching the economy.
The event has since been rescheduled to take place from November 1st to November 12th 2021.
