SUMMARY:United Nations Stockholm +50 Conference
DESCRIPTION:“Stockholm+50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility\, our opportunity” \n\n\n\nThe United Nations Stockholm+50 is an international meeting convened by the United Nations General Assembly to be held in Stockholm\, Sweden from 2-3 June 2022. \n\n\n\nIt will commemorate the 50 years since the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment\, which made the environment a pressing global issue for the first time. Some 122 countries attended\, and participants adopted a series of principles on the environment\, including the Stockholm Declaration and Action Plan for the Human Environment. The United Nations Environment Programme was created as a result of the conference.  \n\n\n\nNow\, 50 years after that Stockholm meeting\, the world faces a triple planetary crisis of climate change\, pollution and waste\, nature and biodiversity loss\, as well as other planetary ills that are affecting current and future prosperity and wellbeing. An unhealthy planet threatens human health\, prosperity\, equality and peace – as the world has seen only too clearly in COVID-19. It also threatens the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. \n\n\n\nSweden will host Stockholm+50\, with the support of Kenya. It will be during the same week as World Environment Day\, which is held on 5 June each year and is also a result of the 1972 event. \n\n\n\nStockholm+50 will be collaborative and multi-stakeholder in nature\, open to all participants who will be invited to share experiences and initiatives to protect the planet and contribute to sustainable and inclusive development\, including a sustainable recovery from the COVID -19 pandemic. \n\n\n\nThe meeting will comprise an opening segment\, four plenary meetings and three leadership dialogues\, and a closing segment. \n\n\n\nClick here for more information.

SUMMARY:World Giraffe Day
DESCRIPTION:World Giraffe Day is an annual event initiated by the Giraffe Conservation Foundation\, the leading international charity dedicated to giraffe conservation\, to celebrate the tallest animal on the longest day or night of the year. \n\n\n\nThe purpose of the event is to raise awareness and shed a light on the challenges faced by giraffe in the wild (habitat loss and fragmentation\, poaching\, etc.).  \n\n\n\nA century ago\, more than 1 million giraffe roamed across Africa\, but today only a little more than 100k individuals remain in the wild\, in fragmented populations. In 1999\, it was estimated that over 140\,000 giraffes existed in the wild\, but estimations as of 2016 indicate that there are approximately 97\,500 members of Giraffa in the wild\, down from 155\,000 in 1985. \n\n\n\nGiraffes have a scattered range\, which extends from Chad in the north to South Africa in the south\, and from Niger  in the west to Somalia in the east. Giraffes usually inhabit savannahs and woodland. \n\n\n\nGiraffes are listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN’s Red list. The primary causes for giraffe population declines are habitat loss and direct killing for bushmeat markets. \n\n\n\nThe Giraffe Conservation Foundation is dedicated to a sustainable future for all giraffe populations in the wild. GCF is the only NGO in the world that concentrates solely on the conservation and management of giraffe in the wild throughout Africa. \n\n\n\nHashtags: #WorldGiraffeDay  \n\n\n\nFor more information
