SUMMARY:United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP 15) - Part 1
DESCRIPTION:The fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will review the achievement and delivery of the CBD’s Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020. It is also anticipated that the final decision on the post-2020 global biodiversity framework will be taken\, together with decisions on related topics including capacity building and resource mobilisation. \n\n\n\nOriginally scheduled to take place from 11 to 24 October 2021\, the conference has now been divided into two parts. From 11 to 15 October\, governments will meet virtually for phase one of the conference\, which includes a high-level segment from 12 to 13 October. Phase 2 will be an in-person meeting in Kunming\, China from 25 April to 8 May 2022. \n\n\n\nThe Secretariat remains committed to ensuring the successful and timely preparations of COP-15 and the concurrent meetings of the Parties to the Protocols. Ongoing discussions about the post-2020 global biodiversity framework\, to be agreed in Kunming\, are taking place between CBD Parties  and a range of stakeholders. These discussions have revolved around two key documents\, which highlight the opportunities needed to conserve biodiversity: \n\n\n\nthe recently published fifth Global Biodiversity Outlook\, andthe updated zero draft of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework.\n\n\n\nAn integrated approach must be taken to guarantee that action is taken to employ the essential tools needed to reverse biodiversity loss and its impact on ecosystems\, species and people.  Key actions to support this approach include protecting critical habitats\, improving water quality\, controlling invasive species and safeguarding connectivity. \n\n\n\n\n\nFor more information.
